Kitty's Birthday (That's Today?!)

Red and Eric are in hot water when they forget Kitty's birthday. Kelso tries being just friends with Jackie, and she begins thinking of him as her best girlfriend. And after spending a few minutes with Caroline, Hyde tells Fez that his new girlfriend is a psycho.

The gang's hanging out in the Forman driveway. Caroline is with Fez, and he's working overtime trying to impress her. Hyde suggests that he and Kelso take a drive in his new car and look for girls; Kelso declines the invitation saying he's too mature and seconds later agrees to go to the mall with Jackie. He explains to the guys that Jackie's the only girl he wants to be with. Right now she just wants to be friends, but eventually he'll turn the "friend" into "boyfriend." Kitty's preparing dinner when Hyde arrives with a birthday gift for her. Kitty's really touched that he remembered. Eric and Red arrive with Eric griping about what's for dinner and Red asking for his shirt to be ironed. Kitty dumps dinner into the sink and storms out. Eric and Red shrug it off and order pizza. Later that evening at The Hub, Jackie talks to Kelso enthusiastically about their trip to the mall. She tells him that he's like the girlfriend she never had. Fez had to go bowling with his host family, so Hyde offers Caroline a ride home. At the Formans, Kitty's still acting strangely, and Red observes that she's been moody all day. It suddenly hits him that today's Kitty's birthday; they now have to come up with a plan to appease her. On the ride home Caroline starts talking about how she'd feel if Fez would leave her, and Hyde realizes that she's crazy. Kitty's in bed when Eric and Red come in and lamely insist that they'd been plotting a surprise all along. But when she opens he presents and finds a map of Wisconsin, some balloons and a funnel, she's not convinced. She demands that Red admit he forgot her birthday, and he's still in trouble the next morning. The guys are again hanging out in the Forman driveway, and Hyde tells Fez that his girlfriend's a psycho. Fez storms off. Kelso wonders what made Jackie think of him as a girlfriend. He imagines what it would be like to be Jackie's maid of honor at her wedding. Kitty tells Donna that Eric and Red forgot her birthday. Donna wants to kick Eric's ass, but Kitty wonders if maybe she was expecting too much. Donna says that actually she should be even madder, because she's the best mom in the world. After talking with Caroline, Fez apologizes to Hyde. Caroline is crazy, but she's crazy for Fez. Red tells Eric that the only way to get back in Kitty's good graces is for them to do something that Kitty's been asking to do for the last ten years. Eric should be prepared, because what she wants is the most horrible thing in the world. They're going square dancing at the VFW hall.
