The Pill

Jackie thinks she's pregnant, and Kelso thinks his life is over. After she hears about Jackie's problems, Donna decides to go on the pill.

Desperate to confide in someone when she can't find Donna, Jackie tells Eric that she's pregnant. Later that day, Eric swears Donna to secrecy and tells her about Jackie. At the Hub, Kelso thinks Jackie's acting weird, and when Jackie and Donna discuss the problem in the restroom, it's clear to Donna that Jackie hasn't thought things through; she's mostly thinking that she won't be cheerleading anymore and she'll miss the class trip. She tells Donna that she's too embarrassed to tell Kelso, but when they come out of the restroom and see Kelso passed out on the floor, they realize he's figured it out. Eric's sister Laurie is home from college trying to intercept all the mail so she can change her grades before Red sees them. Eric runs into Bob at the pharmacy just as the pharmacist mistakenly gives Bob Donna's birth control pills instead of Bob's prescription cough medicine, and Bob goes ballistic. Laurie announces at diner that Donna's on the pill and then leaves; Kitty urges Eric to have respect for Donna while Red tells him to just keep his hands off. At the Pinciottis, Midge tells Bob she's proud of Donna for acting so responsibly, but Donna's mortified that Eric knows about the pills. A greatly relieved Jackie tells Donna it was a false alarm; Donna says Jackie was remarkably lucky and that she should be very careful in the future. Donna tells Jackie she's taking the pill not to be popular, as Jackie surmises, but because she never wants to get stuck in their dinky little town. Jackie tells Kelso she's not pregnant at the same time she tells him she's breaking up with him. Donna and Eric agree that nothing has changed; they'll still wait for the right time, but Eric hopes that it will come very soon.
