Original Airdate: November 29, 1998

Kitty's resolve to quit smoking weakens when her mother-in-law comes for a visit. Eric has to entertain his grandmother, so his friends try unsuccessfully to help him with his term paper that's due the next day.
Detailed Synopsis
It’s Saturday night and Eric announces that he has a 1,000-word paper due on Monday but he’s not stressing about it. Kelso chimes in that no one’s going to have to stress about Jackie anymore because he’s breaking up with her. Everyone’s so sick of hearing this. Kitty has decided to quit smoking (again). At Sunday breakfast, Eric tells Kitty how happy he is that she won’t be smoking anymore. The phone rings and the Formans learn that Bernice, Red’s mother, is coming over to go to church and have Sunday dinner with them. Kitty is a wreck because she and Bernice have never gotten along. She goes into a frenzy of activity to get ready for Bernice’s visit. Red tells her to do everyone a favor and have a cigarette, but Kitty insists she’s fine. Eric’s a little stressed himself, because he’s promised to help out with his grandmother and he has a term paper due tomorrow but he wants to keep peace in the family. Donna tells Eric not to worry; they’ll help him with his paper. Just as Kelso is about to tell Jackie it’s over, she tells everyone that she did a paper on the same subject last year and got an "A." She leaves to get the paper and Donna tells Kelso not to break up yet. Hyde says he’ll write the paper. Upstairs, Fez endears himself to Bernice by happily volunteering to rub her feet. At dinner, Bernice grumbles and gives everyone a hard time, but invites Fez to watch Lawrence Welk with her. Jackie returns and announces that her paper was actually on the four food groups, not American government, and Hyde hasn’t written anything that Eric can use. Eric tells everyone thanks a lot. Kitty storms into the basement and demands a cigarette. Everyone plays innocent, but she says she’ll close her eyes and hold out her hand. When she opens her eyes, she had better have a cigarette. She does. At last, its time for Bernice to go home, and she acts as if her day has been absolutely delightful. In the middle of the night, as Eric is slaving over his paper, Kitty comes down to thank him for helping her get through the day.
